A Court Of Mist and Fury

A Dazzling Book That’ll Make You Want to Read More
First of all, let’s start this review with this beautifully written quotes:
·       “To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys." Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”
·       “He thinks he'll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”
-A Court Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
A Court Of Mist and Fury is the second book of the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series by Sarah J. Maas. It’s first book being “A Court of Thorns and Roses” and final book “A Court of Wings and Ruin”. It was released on May 3rd, 2016. Like the previous novel, this novel also has a fairy tale and mythological connections, with Hades and Persephone as this book's main theme.
This book follows the story of Feyre after the events of the previous books, she now has to deal with a bargain she made with the villain, Rhysand, to escape from Under the Mountain, a place where Amarantha kept captive Feyre for weeks. Feyre has to now decide if the villain is truly what people believe he is, but only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future.
Very rarely I find a book whose characters make me feel emotional, although it happens sometimes. But no book has ever made me feel like this one before. Ever. These characters got into my soul and heart like no others. “A Court of Mist and Fury” starts three months after the ending of “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, with Feyre suffering for what she did Under the Mountain, for what was done to her. This book, like the first one, which was a retelling of the Beauty and The Beast, has mythological elements (the beginning of a special relationship is based off Hades and Persephone) and folklore elements (there is a scene inspired by Hansel and Gretel). And unlike in “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, I adored that the author decided to include those kinds of elements in this second installment.
But I think that what makes this book infinitely superior to the first is Feyre's emotional journey. That is the real jewel of this book. To get started, the way Sarah J. Maas has represented Feyre's PTSD is just absolutely heartbreaking. Her character development through “A Court of Mist and Fury” is precisely the best aspect of this book. And speaking of characters, the members of the Night Court, aside from Rhys, are introduced in this book and I'm completely in love with each one of them. Although Feyre and Rhys are still my absolute favorites, their dynamic in this book is probably one of the best things I've ever read. The love story, unlike in “A Court of Thorns and Roses”, is beyond beautiful and captivating.
We also get to know more about the Fae world, especially about the Night Court and the Summer Court. The world-building is definitely another aspect that Sarah J. Maas has improved in this second book. It was amazing to learn more about other cultures in Prythian and Maas especially surprised me with the detail with which she describes Velaris.
The plot is really engrossing. Not only because of the slow burning relationship between two certain characters but because there is more action in this book and way more plot twists than the first book. And can we talk about that ending? WOW!!

So without a doubt, I think A Court of Mist and Fury is a book much more complex and beautiful than A Court of Thorns and Roses. The plot, the world-building, the writing, the pacing, the beautiful love story, the friendships, the character development, the folklore elements, the action... it was all perfect. I laughed. I suffered. I smiled. I even cried—a proof of how this book got under my skin, as I can count on the fingers of one hand the times I've cried reading a book. Now I just want to feel it all over and over again.
